Great Orme Brewery, Colwyn Bay

Great Orme LogoThe Great Orme Brewery was established in November 2005 and is situated on a hillside in the Conwy Valley between Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed. The company is driven by three founding principles:

  • To use natural ingredients and traditional brewing methods.
  • To brew beers that locals are proud of and visitors will come back for.
  • To be an honest and pleasant company to work with.

Beers from the Great Orme are fast gaining a reputation of excellence in North Wales and Ystwyth Ales is proud to help them expand that to the rest of Wales.

Great Orme CambriaCambria Ale (3.5% ABV)

A thirst-quenching session ale full of fresh hop flavours and aroma. Cambria was originally designed to meet the needs of one of our customers, a walkers' pub in Snowdonia.

Great Orme CelticaCeltica Ale (5.5% ABV)

A refreshing contemporary cask conditioned golden ale full of citrus taste and aroma. This ale is brewed using a single pale ale malt giving it a lovely golden colour. Citrus flavoured hops are used to produce an intense fruity flavour.

Great Orme MerlinMerlin Ale (4.9% ABV)

A strong beer at 4.9% with perfectly balanced hop bitterness and sweet malt making it very drinkable and bursting with flavour. This cannot be described as a session ale, but its full mouth-feel and fine balance of rich heart-warming flavours does lend itself to the traditional log fire style pub.

Great Orme OrmeOrme Ale (4.2% ABV)

A cask conditioned ale based on a traditional Welsh recipe. The taste of this best bitter is due to the subtle addition of crystal and chocolate malts to the base Maris Otter pale ale malt. The initial well balanced taste gives way to a delicate smoked finish.

Great Orme Welsh BlackWelsh Black Ale (4.0% ABV)

Rich, dark and full of malt flavours, this black bitter owes its characteristics to the large amount of chocolate malt giving it a velvety smooth rich coffee finish. No aroma hops are added to this beer, instead seven types of grain are used to develop the flavour.
