Woods Brewery LogoSince it started brewing real ales in 1980, the Wood Brewery has become one of the best known in Shropshire. Its top-selling bitter, Shropshire Lad, is widely available as a cask-conditioned draught beer, or in bottles. Wood's are renowned for the huge range of beers they produce every year.

 

Woods Shropshire Lad

Shropshire Lad (4.5% ABV)

First brewed in 1996 to commemorate the century of Housman's Shropshire Lad poems. It quickly became a best seller. A strong well rounded bitter drawing from a fine blend of selected English malted barley, traditional English Fuggles and Golding hops.

Woods Shropshire LassShropshire Lass (4.1% ABV)

Fruity, gold coloured bitter beer with a good hop flavour on the palate and in the aftertaste. At 4.1% the beer is lighter in strength as well as style than Shropshire Lad.  Using Pale and Lager malts and Cascade and Mount Hood hops from Washington State this gorgeous blonde ale is overlaid with a lovely citrus aroma and grapefruit notes.

Woods WonderfulWonderful (4.8% ABV)

A dark and powerful ruby brew with a flavour that you can enjoy from the first to the last. Combines English Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts and torrified wheat. This special wheat helps ensure each pint has a good head on it. Again Fuggles and Goldings are the hops used.

Woods ParishParish Bitter (4.0% ABV)

One of the first of Wood's beers and a steady and popular pint. The drawing on the pump clip features the church in Wistanstow, the village where Wood's have always been brewed. A light-coloured beer, hopped in the cask for a hoppy, refreshing flavour. Superbly drinkable.

Woods Pot o' GoldPot O' Gold (4.4% ABV)

Pot of Gold was originally brewed as part of the Shropshire Heroes and Legends series. A smooth-drinking 4.4%  bitter, it is brewed to mark the myth of the Bury Ditches fairy who is said to have hidden a pot of gold on the ancient south Shropshire hill fort, Pot of Gold is brewed using water drawn from deep underground in the nearby Corvedale.

Woods QuaffQuaff (3.7% ABV)

The most recent arrival of all the Wood's year-round beers. This session beer is brewed for those who enjoy a great pint that is not too strong. A pale and refreshing light bitter with a clean, hoppy finish provided by Fuggles & Goldings hops to keep you quaffing very happily indeed!

Woods SpecialSpecial Bitter (4.2% ABV)

The beer that launched the brewery, back in 1980. It took many trial runs and changes in recipe before this was finally chosen. A russet-coloured beer. Special's multi layered taste makes it an enduring favourite in many hostelries.
